Talk – Are Citizens’ Assemblies the Solution to Political Paralysis?
01/03/2023 @ 19:30 - 21:00
Are Citizens’ Assemblies the solution to political paralysis?
A FREE TALK ON WEDNESDAY 1st MARCH, 7:30 PM TO 9:00 PM GMT THE EXCHANGE, 75 LONDON ROAD TW1 1BE
(across from Twickenham Rail Station)
A Citizens’ Assembly is a form of participatory decision-making which has been used
successfully around the world. Citizens’ Assemblies broke the deadlock in Ireland on the controversial issues of same-sex marriage and abortion. The National Trust, RSPB and World Wildlife Fund recently commissioned a Citizens’ Assembly to produce a “People’s Plan for Nature”, due out in March.
A fair and deeply democratic process, a Citizens’ Assembly brings together ordinary people, randomly selected but reflecting the make-up of their country, to hear evidence from experts and find solutions to thorny issues. Citizens’ Assemblies could break through the political log-jams that block progress on tackling the climate crisis. There will be time for questions and discussion afterwards.
Limited places, so please register with Eventbrite – google Eventbrite citizens assemblies, or follow link at the top.
